Buse Creek fire east of Kamloops now under control

The wildfire burning east of Kamloops near Highway 1 has been classified as under control, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

After growing to 19 hectares between Sunday, May 12 and Monday morning, the fire's growth has been halted by wildfire crews says fire information officer Hannah Swift.

"We have handguard around the entire perimeter," Swift tells KamloopsMatters. "No further growth is expected."

A handguard is essentially a ditch dug around the entire fire area by hand, down to the soil to prevent the fire from smouldering forth.

Currently, the 18 wildfire service crew who were on the fire yesterday have returned to monitor it and deal with any hot spots.

Swift says while the fire is suspected to be human-caused, the cause is still being investigated.
