We put together a list of Sun Peaks' top events for the summer

Sun Peaks is just a short drive down the highway and offers plenty of close-to-home options throughout the summer, so we put together a list of some events that are worth keeping an eye on as the warmer months float on.

Golf Kick-off Camp

This event will be offered for the first time this season and will feature the CPGA's Bill Bilton Jr. He'll guide golfers through three days of professional instruction from June 7 to 9.

The event is designed to help you brush up on your golfing skills and technique, including overall set-up, chipping and pitching, driving, sand play and putting. For more information click HERE.

National Health and Fitness Day

Sun Peaks is celebrating National Health and Fitness Day by offering free golf and biking activities between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on June 1.

Kids can learn the fundamentals of golfing through Sun Peak’s golf clinic held at the driving range and putting green; those between the ages of nine and 15 can start at 10 a.m. and those between five and eight can join in at 1 p.m.

Adults are also welcome to take part. The lessons will be one-and-a-half hours long and are open to all ability levels.

Those looking to learn some new biking techniques can also take part in a skills clinic being held at the P2 parking lot. Those looking to participate are asked to meet outside of Guest Services.

Kids between five and eight can take part at 10 a.m. while older kids aged nine to 15 can join in the fun at 1 p.m. — adults are welcome to join in the fun as well.

Classes are one-and-a-half hours long are intended for all ability levels. Those wishing to take part must bring their own bike. Only those with helmets will be able to take advantage of the lessons. For more info click HERE.

5k Foam Fest

This one-of-a-kind event isn't a hardcore run, the Sun Peaks website says, it's a FUNCORE run.

It's a family event. Kids eight and up can participate in the run, but there are lots of activities for younger children as well.

The festival area is open to everyone and includes several activities including the bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, ticketed obstacle course, skyfall and a kids fun zone.

Lifts and Lager

This special event helps celebrate Sun Peaks' opening weekend for their summer lift operations on June 22.

They have partnered up with Granville Island Brewing for the one-day event, as anyone who purchases a hiking or bike park lift ticket will get a coupon for a free beer. This offer is only available to those 19-years-old or older (that should be obvious, right?).

A limit of one beer per ticket or season pass will be given and can be claimed at the Sunburst lodge between 12 and 6 p.m.

There will be a DJ on the patio of the lodge and freezies will be given out as a non-alcoholic alternative.

Shred Hard Progression Park Open House

Sun Peaks is celebrating their bike park's 20th anniversary with an open house, and are offering free admission to any child 12 and under to the park's newest addition, the Shred Hard Progression course.

Local pro Dylan Sherrard will be on site, offering tips, shredding some laps, and providing information on a number of camps and skills training courses he will be offering at the park throughout the summer.

There will be music and refreshments available. The open house will run between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., though the free Progression Park passes will be valid until the park closes at 7 p.m.

Mountain of Beer and Chilli Cookoff

Mountain views, beer and chilli are what you will get if you head to Sun Peaks on June 29 thanks to the Mountain of Beer and Chili Cook-Off. The event will run between 12:30 and 4 p.m. as part of their Canada Day Weekend Celebrations.

Attendees will be able to tour the village restaurants sampling signature beers from a wide variety of breweries and taste homemade chilli, before casting their vote for their favourite beer and chilli combo. Your vote will help determine who will be awarded the 2019 People's Choice Trophy.

2019 B.C. Downhill Cup

This high-speed event will offer a top-to-bottom, 100 per cent single track and technically challenging race course, which will start at the Sunburst Lodge patio. The track will feature sections of the Insanity One and Honey Drop courses.

The race will place July 6 and 7 and will feature citizen classes as well, so everyone can get in on the action and ride the same course as the pros. For more information on this race click HERE.

Retro Concert Weekend

This event has been a staple in Sun Peaks for a decade now, so of course it made it on our list of events to check out.

For those who haven’t made it out to the event in the past, it is a full weekend of live musical talent, showcasing tributes to your favourite retro bands.

In the past tributes have included KISS, AC/DC, Led Zepplin, ZZ Top and more. Some in the audience even go dressed to impress, with past concert goers sporting the famous Kiss-style makeup and of course those old tour t-shirts. For more information on what bands will be tribute this year, click HERE.

The Alpine Blossom Festival

This event will stretch across a full weekend and takes place just in time for the blossoms to be in full bloom.

Head to Sun Peaks on July 20 and 21 to take part in the Reach the Peak event with Nancy Green, where hikers young and old can embark on the annual trip up Todd Mountain at their own pace.

The unique festival will also feature climbing walls, alpine yoga, live music, a family fun zone, booths from local groups (like the Big Little Science Centre) an artisan market and much more.

Juno-winner Serena Ryder takes the stage

We know B.C. is filled with summer music festival options, but we also know how expensive those can get.

Want a free option that will only take one day out of your busy schedule? Sun Peaks will be hosting a live show from Canadian singer-songwriter Serena Ryder on July 27 and it won’t cost you a cent.

The concert will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Annex and is open to all ages. Alcohol is not permitted on concert grounds, and a decision on a beer garden will be made closer to the event; check out their website for more info by clicking HERE.

Sun Peaks Art Summit

The Rotary Club of Sun Peaks is getting a little creative and putting on an event on July 27, that will make your artistic senses tingle.

Those attending can expect to see a premiere artist show and sale being held outdoors along the village stroll. Whether you would just like to see the talent the area boosts or are looking for the perfect piece for your home, this event will have plenty of diversity.

Vendors will be set up with their work on display from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on July 27. For more information on the event or to download a vendor application, click HERE.
