Kamloops RCMP looking for young firebug on North Shore

The Kamloops RCMP are asking for the public's help in finding a teenager who allegedly tried to start a grassfire on the North Shore Monday night (May 13).

According to a release from police, a person witnessed a youth male start a fire in the grass along the sidewalk of Singh Street, just south of Greenfield Avenue, around 5:20 p.m.

After starting the fire, the teen ran away. 

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black tank top, grey sweatpants, and carrying a black backpack.

Fortunately, Kamloops Fire Rescue attended and immediately extinguished the fire. 

There was no damage to other property.

“Fire season has started,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in the release. “Any spark, whether intentional or not, can cause extreme damage to property and endanger the lives of people and animals. Everyone should be extremely careful and report any suspicious activity.”
