PHOTOS: City of Kamloops reopens free mini-golf course at McArthur Island Park

Free mini-golf has returned to Kamloops.

The city-run course at McArthur Island is now open following the closure and debate about the future of the island's full course. The course's 18 holes have been cleaned up and are ready for people to show up with their putters.

The course was closed in 2017, along with the main course, after the man running the course gave up his lease (it wasn't free to play when the business was under private ownership). It remained closed in 2018 as the fate of the parkland was determined. In January 2019, it was determined the land would become a multi-use park with a disc golf course, among other amenities. It was decided the mini-golf course would remain.

The course is currently unmanned, ready for anyone to walk up and play a round, so long as they have their own putter and golf balls. Its hours are the same as the rest of McArthur Island Park; city parks are open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
