Schedule set for 46th Kamloops International Baseball Tournament

The schedule has been released for next month's Kamloops International Baseball Tournament (KIBT), as eight semi-pro teams will descend on the Tournament Capital to compete for the $10,000 first-prize, starting July 4.

After just a six-team field in 2018, KIBT will once again be back to eight squads this summer. Making up the field this year will be the returning champion Everett Merchants, Seattle Studs, Northwest Honkers, Coquitlam Angels, Calgary Dinos, Alaska Goldpanners, Edmonton Cubs and the hometown Kamloops Sun Devils.

“KIBT is a Kamloops institution,” says Norm Daley, KIBT community sponsorship coordinator, in a news release. “I know our team of volunteers are excited as we’re back to the full eight teams in attendance. Fans will be well entertained.”

The tournament takes over Norbrock Stadium for four days, from July 4 to 7. Games are played throughout the day, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the final coming at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.

A total of $20,000 in prize money is up for grabs, with the KIBT champions getting half of that, the runners-up collecting $6,000 and each semifinalist getting $2,000.

A hometown team hasn't won the tournament and the Gary Cameron Memorial Trophy since 1981, when the Kamloops Brewers accomplished the feat.

"For those who have never been before, it’s a fantastic event for the entire family to get out and enjoy some ball over four days in July,” says Wayne Harper, president of KIBT, in the release.

This year, you can purchase full event passes ahead of time, online. It's $40 for a tournament pass, which gets you into all 15 games.

You can also purchase game-day tickets at the stadium entrance for $5. Kids under 12 get in free.
