Did you notice all the self-checkouts at the Kamloops Walmart?

If you frequent the local Walmart, you've probably noticed that many of the human-run registers have been replaced with self-checkouts.

In an emailed statement to KamloopsMatters, the company says it's adding the automated tills in approximately three-quarters of its stores in Canada, "to help make our customers' shopping experience even more convenient."

"Locally, this service adds another choice for customers in Kamloops and will make for a faster check-out experience," writes Felicia Fefer, manager of corporate affairs.

She adds, "We continue to work with our customers and associates to ensure the proper implementation of these new technologies as well as in ensuring that a cashier is always available for customers who prefer to check out with an associate."

When asked if anyone has lost their job as a result of the new machines, Fefer says associates have been reassigned within the store "to better serve our customers in new ways," including helping them find product and supporting pick-up services.

How do you feel about the changes? Let us know in the comments.
