Happyvale child care to move to Kamloops Christian School

Parents of children enrolled in daycare at Happyvale Elementary no longer need to stress: the childcare centres have found a new home at Kamloops Christian School.

The operators of Happy Honeybees Child Care and L'il Scholars Preschool met with the principal Sandro Cuzzetto today (Sept. 13) and reached an agreement to rent a few rooms in the school's upstairs to house the combined 53 children enrolled in daycare.

"They're just in the process of doing up the agreement now and they'll email it, we'll review it and sign it and it's a done deal," says Courtney Greenman, who runs L'il Scholars.

The spaces will be rented on a year-to-year lease.

Four Directions Secondary School will be moving into the Happyvale space next month, as a result of Parkcrest students moving into George Hilliard

Greenman says the new space won't offer all the perks of the current 655 Holt St. location. They won't have access to office, kitchen or storage space. They also won't have any allotted time to use the playground space at the school, meaning they'll have to take the kids over to McArthur Island when they want outdoor time.

Still, Greenman is thankful for the new space and hopes parents will not bear any ill will toward the Kamloops-Thompson School District.

"I've been with the school board for 16 years, so I'm just thankful that I got this amount of time. There's no hard feelings. This was not their fault, it's just a trickling system," she laughs.

Greenman was in the process of writing an update to let parents know about the new home when KamloopsMatters reached out. They don't have an exact moving date planned, as the space still needs to be inspected by Interior Health.

"We don't know an exact date, but the school board needs this building back before Oct. 9, so it'll be before then," she says.
