South Kamloops keeps up winning ways in exhibition season

The South Kamloops Titans defence dug deep and stopped Rutland on fourth down to preserve a 28-25 win and remain undefeated in exhibition play to start their 2019 varsity football season.

In a back and forth game in Kelowna's Apple Bowl Stadium, the Titans were once again powered by their run game. Running back Mike MacDonald had 109 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries while Cohen Freeze added 80 yards on the ground. Quarterback Eric Crawford punched in a one-yard sneak for a score.

South Kamloops was able to get some scoring through the air as well, with Crawford and Freeze hooking up for 1 24-yard touchdown for the Titans first points of the game. “That was a really tough, hard-fought battle tonight,"  said Titans head coach JP Lancaster in a release. "Rutland gave us everything we could handle but we were able to weather the storm and find a way to win. We have a lot of mistakes to clean up for next week as we travel to Abbotsford to face a really strong opponent with Robert Bateman.”

That will be the last preseason contest for the Titans, who open their regular season on Oct. 4, when they host Clarence Fulton.

The Titans are the only varsity high school program left in Kamloops.
