Two WolfPack players get all-star nod

Days after sneaking into the Canada West playoffs on the final day of the season, the TRU WolfPack men's soccer team have even more to celebrate, as a pair of players were named all-stars.

Defender Jan Pirrates Glasmacher was named to the Canada West first all-star team while injured forward James Fraser was chosen for the second team all-stars.

Glasmacher started in all 16 games for the WolfPack this season, potting four goals and adding one assist. This is the third straight year he was named a conference all-star following a second-team selection in 2018-19 and a rookie team selection in 2017-18.

"He is an elite player and has been our most consistent player this year in many different positions," says head coach John Antulov in a news release. "He is very unselfish and will do whatever is needed for the good of the team. He is our captain and leader and will continue to develop as a player to the next levels. I am glad to see him being recognized by the other coaches in our conference as an elite player for this program and conference."

Fraser was well on his way to a first-team selection until suffering a rare infection in his back. At the time of his injury, he was leading Canada West in scoring. Despite playing only eight games, he still finished fourth in goals with eight.

"James was having an amazing year as an offensive juggernaut and on track to have the best season offensively in TRU history before having it cut short by injury," says Antulov. "To still be recognized as second-team all-star shows the season he was having and what the other coaches in the conference thought of his play."

Without their top scorer, the WolfPack still managed to rally down the stretch, winning their final three games to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season.

They will travel to Calgary this weekend to take on the top seed in the Prarie Division, the Mount Royal Cougars. The Cougars beat the WolfPack 2-1 earlier in the season.

Kickoff for the winner take all game will be Saturday (Oct. 26) at 2 p.m.
