Snowbombing won't be coming to Sun Peaks this spring

One of the largest winter festivals in the country won't be back in Sun Peaks this spring, as Snowbombing Canada organizers say they're taking a year off in order to improve future events.

"Snowbombing has been a fantastic experience for the artists, our team and the guests who have enjoyed incredible music and events in such an amazing setting," says Nate Sabine, director of business development at BluePrint, the production company for the event. 

"We've simply decided to take a year off in order to work on 2021's event, plans for which will be announced in the coming months."

The festival has been held in Sun Peaks each April for the past three years and features snow sports, crazy contests and a ton of musical acts — including a boatload of DJs and EDM artists.

Snowbombing Canada announced the 2020 festival was cancelled via Instagram, in October. Sabine says the decision was made in September and taking a year off is something "many festivals do."

Last spring seemed like a down year for the festival, Aidan Kelly, chief marketing officer with Sun Peaks Resort, told KamloopsMatters at the time. (Kelly is currently unavailable for comment this week.) 

But Sabine says Snowbombing Canada has been performing well from the get-go.

"The festival was successful since year one, which is rare," he writes in an email. "We feel that year three was the strongest yet in terms of layout, use of venues, partner brands and genres. Stepping back and taking a year off seemed like a good option."

Sabine couldn't discuss whether the 2021 version of Snowbombing will look different, but confirmed that it will be back at Sun Peaks.

"Sun Peaks is a great mountain and great partner. Without their support, the festival doesn't happen," he says.
