Kamloops nightclub hosting fundraiser for Jessie Simpson

Friends of Jessie Simpson will come together on Nov. 22 for a fundraiser at Cactus Jack's.

The nightclub is hosting a special evening in support of Simpson, who was assaulted in June 2016 by Kristopher Teichrieb. The attack left Simpson with a catastrophic brain injury, along with many other physical injuries that have left him bedridden and wheelchair-bound in a full-time care facility.

Kellan Sandhu, an events manager at CJ's, says Simpson used to come and help out with events at other venues around town, before the assault.

"He used to come and help tear down. He became part of the group (here)," Sandhu tells KamloopsMatters. "Quite a few of my friends were also close friends with him too."

Sandhu is also the owner/operator of Hi, Society Entertainment, the organization putting on the fundraiser, in conjunction with CJ's.

The evening will consist of DJs — including Abstrakt Sonance, Leo Zen, Mayo and Cartoon Network — playing their beats from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. There will also be live art demonstrations, clothing vendors, a 50/50 draw and a silent auction. All proceeds will go toward Simpson's care.

Sandhu hopes to raise between $1,000 and $2,000. Tickets are $10 (CJ's can fit up to 600 people).

"It's just important that we help people in our community that are in need," he says. "We should all stand together."
