Indigo is giving Parkcrest Elementary a $10,000 grant to rebuild its library

Parkcrest Elementary will be getting a $10,000 grant from the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation, the organization announced today (Dec. 2).

The money will be put towards rebuilding the school's library, which was lost in the Sept. 5 fire. The blaze burned the Brock school to the ground, forcing teachers and students to temporarily relocate to George Hilliard until a new school is built.

"The foundation was contacted by community members in Kamloops regarding the tragic fire," states the release. "While this falls outside the foundation's typical granting programs, the foundation was moved by the story and will be supporting the school's library rebuild through a transformative grant."

Parkcrest is currently finalizing a library space at George Hilliard, according to the release, and will be officially opening it to their school community on Dec. 3.

"The timeline for when Parkcrest will have their own space again is to be determined, but these books will form the basis of their new library when they make their way to their permanent home," states the release.

Chapters and Coles employees in Kamloops will help curate the collection.
