Kamloops artist turns dirty truck into masterpiece

If you've been caught driving behind Zachary Abney's rather filthy truck over the past few days, you'll know — it's the one with a recreation of the Mona Lisa etched in the dirt.

"I keep telling myself I'm going to wash my truck and then I stop and doodle something new on the side of it," says the local artist. "So I'm not really sure when I'm going to wash it."

His latest work was another nod to Michelangelo, as he drew the Creation of Adam on the side of his truck.

"I like to play around with that Sistine Chapel idea on the truck, just because it's my holy place," Abney tells KamloopsMatters.

Each work only takes five to 10 minutes and all Abney needs is his finger and his filthy F-150.

"It got super dirty when I was driving to Cranbrook the other day and I thought, 'Hey, why waste a free canvas?'"

Abney, who is responsible for some of the murals around downtown, also works for CP Rail, and that's where he first started doodling like this.

He did doodles of Tupac and Biggie Smalls on the trucks at work, much to the delight of his coworkers.

"It's funny seeing people's reactions to it. I have a lot of people that pull up behind me and pull the phone out and take pictures or walk around the truck and take videos and stuff."

If you do see Abney's artistically dirty truck on the road, be sure not to take pictures while you're driving. Better yet, to see more of his work, click HERE.
