UPDATE: Female suspect arrested in Chilliwack

UPDATE: 9:37 p.m.

The woman involved in an incident earlier today in Kamloops, who is believed to have run from police in a stolen vehicle, has been arrested.

The female driver who smashed into multiple parked vehicles while escaping police was later arrested in Chilliwack, according to the latest update from RCMP.

She has a court date tomorrow (Dec. 7).

ORIGINAL: 3 p.m.

Kamloops Mounties were busy this afternoon trying to catch the driver of a stolen Lexus.

It all started on the North Shore at the Mr. Lube, around 12:30 p.m., when RCMP officers ran the plates of the white vehicle, Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer tells KamloopsMatters.

"The members were working on something unrelated when they saw this particular vehicle, and someone took the proactive step of checking the licence plate, and it turned out to be a stolen car," he says, adding it was stolen on Dec. 4 out of Surrey.

Police tried to stop the female driver when she was returning to the SUV, but were unsuccessful. A video of the incident has been circulating on Facebook.

"Unfortunately, she didn't comply with the police direction and decided to take off in the vehicle and managed to do so. In order to do so, she rammed a few parked vehicles (in the lot)," says Van Laer. "She caused some significant damage to some vehicles in there."

Van Laer says the detachment received a number of calls about the SUV, which had a missing bumper.

It was later located at the Canadian Tire on the South Shore; however, the woman was nowhere to be found.

"We have not located her yet, but our investigators are investigating as we speak, so the investigation is ongoing."

If you saw the suspect, you're asked to call police at 250-828-3000.

"We're doing our own internal investigation as well," Van Laer says. "We have some good photos and information about her, so we suspect through our regular investigative channels, we should be able to identify her fairly quick."

Police have released images of the suspect. See above.

This case is the second of its kind today. A man and woman were arrested earlier in the day, for driving in a stolen pickup.

Editor's note: The story was updated at 4:55 p.m. to include pictures of the suspect.
