Ashcroft RCMP investigate after driver hit by train, survives

Ashcroft RCMP are investigating after a train collided with a vehicle yesterday morning (Dec. 19) and the driver walked away with "non-life threatening injuries."

The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken to hospital for treatment, but has since been released.

The collision occurred near Old Cariboo Road and Tingley Street. The Mazda MX3 the man was driving was heavily damaged.

"Initial indicators at the scene suggest that the vehicle was struck on the passenger side, by a southbound CN train," says a news release from Ashcroft RCMP. "The force of the impact from the train tipped the passenger car onto its driver's side, before it finally came to rest back on its wheels."

Ashcroft Mounties are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

If you witnessed the event and haven't spoken to police, contact the Ashcroft RCMP detachment at 250-453-2216.
