Black ice sends car over Halston Bridge embankment, driver to Kamloops hospital

Emergency crews were busy this morning at the Halston Bridge.

A call came in at 7:10 a.m. this morning (Jan. 22) after a compact car went over the embankment leading up to the bridge over the North Thompson, says Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie.

"It appears the vehicle hit black ice," she says. "There was only the driver in the vehicle."

Ambulance, Kamloops Fire Rescue and RCMP all attended the scene. The driver was extracted with only non-life threatening injuries, Shelkie says.

"As a precautionary measure she was taken to Royal Inland Hospital," she adds.

Witnesses report a second accident happened around the same time nearby on Halston Avenue when a car sideswiped the centre median.

Both incidents have been cleared and traffic is now moving fine through the area.
