Mitchie's Delivery — there's an app for that

Ordering from Mitchie's Delivery just got a whole lot easier.

The Kamloops company has launched an app that's compatible with Apple and Android products.

"It's very similar to our competitor's," says co-owner Sean Martin, referring to Skip The Dishes.

"You can click on nearby restaurants and it'll show you distance-based which ones are closest to you. Then you click on that particular restaurant, and it's all sorted by categories (burgers, salads, etc.)."

The app was constructed by Martin's brother Chris, who did the work on the side of his full-time job as an electrician.

Mitchel Hughes launched Mitchie's Delivery in August 2019 after quitting his management position at Andre's Electronic Experts to pursue his dream full-time.

It started out as a delivery service, where people would call in. Hughes and his team did grocery runs, pharmacy runs and everything in between.

Before Hughes knew it, Martin came aboard as a business partner and Mitchie's Delivery had its own website.

"The website will always be there. We're just moving toward a more online business rather than people calling in," says Martin.

In less than six months, the local company has experienced "exponential growth."

When the website went live last November, Mitchie's Delivery had 10 participating restaurants. Today, they're hovering around 40, and that number is growing rapidly, according to the pair.

Local establishments that have signed on include Alchemy Brewing, Casa Azul, Krob Krua and Frenchies Poutinerie.

However, it's been nothing but long hours for Hughes and Martin.

"We work from eight in the morning to 11 at night right now," Hughes says with a laugh.

"Every day, seven days a week. And on weekends, we're working until midnight," adds Martin.

However, they say they're starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Excellent customer service is still their number one priority, says Hughes.

"Yes, we're expanding and yes, we're adding an app to our repertoire, but we're still going to be maintaining our level of premium service," he says.

"We're not going to fall back on not showing up for deliveries or taking longer than normal. Our average run time is 35 to 40 minutes. We're going to hire (more drivers) and make sure we keep it as such."

Mitchie's Delivery delivers to any neighbourhood that falls within the city limits, such as Westsyde, Juniper, Knutsford and Dallas. Or, within 25 km of the restaurant.

Looking ahead, the business partners say they hope to expand into other small- and medium-sized markets.

"We’ll look at underserved markets. Kamloops is underserved in its outlying areas, so that’s important to us. I can imagine that Vernon is the same way," says Martin.

"These big companies, where they’re trying to grow at all costs, they’ve got a come up with a way that works everywhere, so they don’t really cater to each individual community."

To download the free app, go to your app store and type in "Mitchie's Delivery." Or, click here if you have an Apple device and here if you have an Android.
