Kamloops Canada Day festivities cancelled due to COVID-19

Canada Day party cancelled

Given the ongoing pandemic, the City of Kamloops has decided to cancel this year's Canada Day celebration at Riverside Park, an event that draws thousands of people to the city's core.

"B.C. health officials have indicated that physical distancing measures put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19 will remain in place throughout the summer," says Mayor Ken Christian in a press release. "These decisions are never easy, but we know this is in the best interest of our residents."

Christian urges people to look past the disappointment of losing the large event and focus on the big picture as the global pandemic continues.

Kamloops' annual Canada Day festivities bring more than 30,000 people to Riverside Park, according to the release, and includes multicultural performances, music, food, an artisan market and more.

"We look forward to celebrating together in 2021," Christian says.
