Kamloops resident wins vintage RV in women's shelter raffle

Woman wins vintage RV

A Kamloops woman will no longer be roughing it in a tent.

Chantelle Pigeon is the lucky winner of the Citation RV & Trailers raffle. She picked up her prize — a 1975 Terry Trailer — on Thursday, July 2.

Pigeon's name was drawn out of 4,000 entries, Citation owner Ester Gerlof tells Castanet.

"I called her and she was kind of quiet at first. Nobody really expects to win," she says. "She was super excited. She actually picked it up yesterday because she has some time off and she wanted to take it camping this weekend. She was really happy. She said they were looking to get a trailer for a long time."

Most of the proceeds (tickets were sold for $5 apiece) will go to the local Y Women's Emergency Shelter.

It was the first time she's done a raffle, Gerlof says.

She originally purchased the trailer on Facebook as a reno project for her team, to keep them busy during the slow season.

"We didn't really have a plan. We probably were going to sell it."

Her staff then suggested raffling it off for a good cause.

They started to sell tickets in March.

"The plan was to sell most of the tickets at the home show and do the draw there, and then of course with the whole COVID and everything, that got cancelled."

Gerlof picked June 30 as the draw date and hoped for the best. Sure enough, the community came through and all the tickets were sold. Some dropped by the Valleyview store while others paid over the phone.

Gerlof intends to hand over the donation to the women's shelter in the next week or so.
