Man charged in assault of security guard at Riverside Park

Man charged in assault

A man has been charged in the assault of 71-year-old Glen Warner at Riverside Park.

Matthew Santoro of Surrey is facing a single charge of assault causing bodily harm. Police arrested him yesterday in connection with the assault; his case was heard in a Kelowna courtroom today. He's been released for now and is due to be in Kamloops Aug. 10 for an arraignment hearing.

Warner was assaulted July 2 while working at Riverside Park, a job he says he loves. He had approached a man to ask him to stop smoking when the man verbally assaulted him before punching in the face with no warning.

Warner was able to take photos of the suspect as he rode away on a bike.

His initial report of the incident to police was not taken very seriously, but Warner and his son Jason contacted the Kamloops detachment and new officers took on the case this weekend.

Santoro was arrested last night.
