North Shore hosting craft fair, market instead of Overlanders Day

Craft fair on The Shore

While the North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) has had to push back plans for their big events — like the classic Overlanders Day or the brand new Tapestry Festival — it doesn't mean nothing is happening this summer.

Patti Phillips, the organization's marketing director, has put together a craft fair and market, happening July 24 in the parking lot next to the NSBIA headquarters at Wilson House (115 Tranquille Rd.). She tells Castanet that with rules allowing gatherings up to 50 people and a large parking lot next door, she decided to use her creativity.

"It's for the community," she says. "It's bringing some fun to the community."

With 26 booths (10 or so are still available to rent), it'll be a smaller event than usual. However, Phillips is excited about the variety she's lined up so far.

"We have everything from succulent creations to produce to handmade clothing," she says. "We have one man that makes his own birdhouses and feeders."

There'll also be a photo booth and a couple of booths just outside the entrance.

The event will focus more on crafters and creators, she says, and less so on businesses; typically Overlanders Day, a celebration of the North Shore, has a collection of booths from all sectors.

To hold the event, there are some regulations the NSBIA has to follow, and Phillips says there will be masks and sanitizer at the front of the market and a staff member keeping track of how many people are in at any given time.

The event will run from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. For more information, click here.
