New North Shore project proposal may include new Starbucks

New project for Tranq and 12

A lot that's been empty for years may have a new commercial building built on it soon.

Years ago, at the intersection of 12 Avenue and Tranquille Road, there stood a Husky gas station. It's gone now and the lot has been empty since.

That might not be the case much longer, as developers want to turn the property into a commercial building with a drive-thru restaurant and two other units. Drawings in a city report show a Starbucks as the drive-thru tenant.

According to city documents, the project would see a 449 square structure built along with parking for the site and pedestrian infrastructure. In the report, city staff note it fits with guidelines for the area, which would put it across the road from the Tranquille Market convenience store and NorKam Secondary School.

Council will discuss and vote on the project on July 14.
