A smaller version of Barb's Used Book and Music Sale returns this summer

Barb's book sale returns

Bookworms will be excited to learn that Barb's Used Book and Music Sale will be happening this summer — but as a pop-up sale.

The event, a semi-annual fundraiser for the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (KSO), will be held in the orchestra's offices and music school at 6-510 Lorne St. The sale has bounced around to different locations over the last few years, including Sahali Mall and the Lansdowne Village Shopping Centre.

The sale will take place on Wednesdays through Saturdays through August, starting Aug. 12.

COVID-19 protocols will be in place, to ensure a safe environment for everyone, notes a news release from the KSO.

"There will be a limit of 10 shoppers in the building at a time, masks will be required and each shopper will have a maximum of 30 minutes in the store," states the release. "The layout of the sale will promote a one-way path through the building."

Cashless interactions are being encouraged and shoppers are welcome to bring their own bags (you'll have to bag your own books if you choose this option).

The KSO says volunteers will be unable to accept any donations at this time, due to the limited space in its offices.

The popular sale has been running consistently since 1997; it was spearheaded by Barb Cornbishley, who was one of the KSO's board members at the time. When she died, the KSO renamed the event in her name. Funds raised support the symphony's operating expenses, from concert productions to educational programs.
