Construction begins on McGill between University Dr. and Columbia St.

Construction at McGill Road

The City of Kamloops will begin its Utility Relocation Project Friday at 7:00 a.m.

The $1.4 million project will replace 450 metres of water main, minor sanitary sewer work, and rehabilitation of the asphalt between Columbia and Dalhousie.

The project is expected to be complete by fall 2020.

According to a city press release, "Crews will be removing pavement along the south side of McGill Road between University Drive (east entrance) and Columbia Street in preparation for the water main replacement."

Drivers and transit users travelling east should expect delays.  Bus stops and sidewalks remain open and accessible.

Driveways on the south side of McGill Road in this area will be impacted for short periods.

On Sunday and Monday, crews will be working in the evening at the intersection of McGill Road and Summit Drive to install the new water main.

"In accordance with an approved City noise variance for the project, work will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. We apologize to residents in the vicinity of the night work for the inconvenience," the city continues.

Traffic control personnel will assist traffic and detours for traffic and transit will be in place.  To view the detour maps, click here.

Beginning Wednesday, crews will continue to install the water main on the south side of McGill Road across from University Drive. One lane of traffic eastbound and two lanes westbound will be maintained.

The Landmark Centre McGill Road access will be closed from time-to-time.

Pedestrian and vehicle access to Thompson Rivers University and local businesses will continue.
