TRU fundraiser nets more than $50,000 for scholarships, bursaries

Day of Giving nets $50,000

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) was able to raise more than $50,000 last month for student scholarships and bursaries.

The final amount collected during the Day of Giving (Nov. 5 and 6), $50,390, smashed the goal of raising $36,000 in 36 hours.

Organizers were "blown away," according to a press release from the university, especially since the event's highlight, the TRU Foundation Breakfast, had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

"Bursaries assisted me when I attended TRU and ensure future generations can complete valuable learning,” notes Bronwen Pakka, a TRU alumna, in the release.

Some of the bursaries and scholarships donors supported include WolfPack 50, which funds awards for student-athletes; women in trades programming; and Indigenous education bursaries.

All donations contributed to the school's Limitless campaign to raise $50 million.
