Mustard Seed and partners launch a turkey toss to support local homelessness

Time to toss the turkey

The Mustard Seed along with partners like Save-On-Foods, have officially launched the inaugural Turkey Toss.

The 'Toss' runs from Dec. 3 to 6 to help feed those experiencing homelessess and poverty this Christmas season. Every Save-On-Foods location will accept frozen turkey and financial donations on behalf of the Mustard Seed-Kamloops, allowing customers to add monetary donations to their grocery bills.

In addition, Save-On-Foods will match up to $2,500 of contributions, with the BC Turkey Farmers doubling donations up to $4,000 after the initial Save-On-Foods contribution.

“The BC Turkey Farmers are pleased to support The Mustard SeedKamloops this Christmas,” says Michel Benoit of BC Turkey Farmers in a press release. “Every year, BC families celebrate festive occasions with a turkey as the centrepiece of their family dinner. The BC Turkey Farmers are very thankful for this and as a result, we would like to share as well with those in our communities in need.”

The Christmas season is always a difficult one for those less fortunate, but especially during this year’s global pandemic, the Mustard Seed notes.

“The holiday’s can be a difficult time for those experiencing poverty and homelessness,” says Kelly Thomson, interim Managing Director of the Mustard Seed-Kamloops. “The Turkey Toss is an opportunity for the community to come together to care for our vulnerable neighbours and show them that they are not alone this season.”
