November building permits slow, but record will still be set

Slow Nov. can't stop record

It may have been one of the slower Novembers in recent years for the city's building permit department, but that won't stop 2020 from setting a big record.

Just under $10.4 million in building permit values were issued last month, significantly less than previous Novembers. All three major categories (residential, commercial and institutional) had no major projects, and neither did the inconsistent industrial category. The largest series of permits came from the school district as they added portable classrooms at Sahali Secondary.

While the monthly statistics were underwhelming, the record setting year-to-date numbers continue to move further ahead. 2020 has now seen nearly $377 million in permits issued. Last year held the record, with $288 million (which was just $3 million ahead of the previous holder, 2018).
