Tk'emlups chief tests positive for COVID-19, urges vigilance among band members

TIB chief positive for COVID

The chief of Tk’emlups te Secwepemc has tested positive for COVID-19.

Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir announced on Friday she would be taking some time off after receiving confirmation of a positive test.

“I am optimistic that I will be fully recovered in no time,” Casimir said in a statement released by the band.

“I am an example of someone who has kept my bubble small, upheld all the safety precautions, wore a mask, washed my hands and still caught the virus. I am proof that even one person from your household can bring home the virus.”

Casimir said she will self-isolate until at least Feb. 13. She said TIB council will take on her responsibilities while she is off.

“Take every precaution you can,” Casimir cautioned.

“Continue to practice and limit exposure. Stay home as much as possible. Wear a mask if you must go out to public places and wash your hands frequently. If you’re not feeling well, stay home.”

Casimir’s positive test comes as Kamloops deals with a surge in cases and a number of outbreaks.
