A suspicious vehicle reported in Kamloops led to an arrest and weapons seizure in Barriere, according to police.
At about 6 p.m. on Friday, officers from Kamloops RCMP’s rural detachment responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Kootenay Way.
According to a police statement, officers located the vehicle along Highway 5 but could not stop it.
A police officer later observed the vehicle at a gas station in Barriere. According to the statement, a number of items were seized as part of an ongoing investigation, including a loaded semi-automatic rifle.
The vehicle’s driver, 22-year-old Cameron Jaykob Deakin-Robertson, was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody, Mounties said.
According to police, Deakin-Robertson could face five charges related to possessing a firearm, driving while prohibited and possessing stolen property.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 15.
