Kamloops police chief calling for safe supply of drugs, mayor on board with 'decriminalization'

Top cop wants 'safe supply'

Kamloops’ top cop says the city needs a safe drug supply, and the mayor is on board with potential drug “decriminalization.”

RCMP Supt. Syd Lecky made the comment in his address to city council’s regular meeting on Tuesday and received immediate support from Mayor Ken Christian.

“The time has come that we need to start talking about safe supply,” Lecky said.

“We have more people dying today than we ever have, complicated by a pandemic that’s even worse.”

Christian said he would back his police chief in calling for “decriminalization” and safe supply.

The City of Vancouver called for a safe supply of drugs in 2019.
