Sleeping man in stolen car led to significant police presence, Mounties say

Police presence downtown

A sleeping man in a spray-painted stolen vehicle led to a significant police presence on Wednesday morning in downtown Kamloops, Mounties say.

Police were called to the a parking lot in the 500-block of Lansdowne Street just after 8:30 a.m. for a report of a man slumped over in a vehicle.

Five RCMP vehicles and one ambulance were on scene at about 9 a.m.

The car was a stolen Mazda that had been spray-painted black, RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn told Castanet Kamloops.

The man found inside the car was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was later released, Evelyn said.

The Mazda was towed from the scene. Evelyn said the registered owner of the vehicle has been contacted.
