UPDATE: 4:02 p.m.

Police seized a BB gun while arresting a man Monday in connection with a report of an armed robbery at a store near Aberdeen Mall.

Mounties were called to a store in the 1300-block of the West Trans-Canada Highway at about 12:45 p.m. after an employee said a man entered the business, stole merchandise and brandished a gun.

RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said the suspect, a man who is well-known to police, was arrested at the Star Lodge on Columbia Street about an hour later.

“Any use of a firearm in a criminal offence, including one that turns out to be an imitation firearm, is extremely concerning and presents a very high risk to police and the general public,” she said.

“Luckily, today’s occurrence ended with the quick arrest of a suspect. We thank the school and the community for their assistance while police investigated, and ask anyone who witnessed anything which may assist in our investigation to please call us.”

Evelyn said investigators seized a BB gun while arresting the suspect.
