Man in hospital after shooting in Valleyview on Sunday, police say

Man shot in Valleyview

A shooting Sunday in Valleyview landed one man in hospital.

Emergency crews were called to the shopping complex in the 2100-block of the East Trans-Canada Highway at about 5:30 p.m. for a report of an injured man in the parking lot.

“It was reported that the victim had walked into the parking lot complex and then collapsed on the ground,” RCMP Sgt. Darren Michels said in a news release.

“Several bystanders began to provide first aid to the male until first responders were able to arrive on scene.”

Michels said Mounties believe they found the scene of the shooting near the shore of the South Thompson River nearby.

“The victim was transported to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment of his injuries and is believed to be in stable condition,” he said.

Michels said investigators are looking to speak with witnesses. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
