Embleton Mountain fire reaches machine guards

Embleton grows to guards

Resources from the Sparks Lake wildfire are being moved to assist in the Embleton Mountain blaze burning just west of Sun Peaks, near Whitecroft.

BC Wildfire Service told Castanet Kamloops that the shift in resources are to ensure the Embleton flames don’t move past the established guard.

BC Wildfire Service fire information officer Forrest Tower said the fire had now burned its way to the guard on the southern and eastern flanks.

“It kind of just looks like a big circle now. And it was very, very fast moving to the machine guards,” Tower said.

BCWS had planed a hand ignition for the area, but as the fire has made its way to the machine guard, Tower said a planned ignition is no longer necessary.

“Because the fire has basically burned right down to the perimeter, which eventually is the goal,” he said, adding that the shifting of resources will ensure the fire can’t grow further in that direction.

At last update the Embleton Mountain fire was estimated at 920 hectares in size.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
