Crews use drones to look for hot spots at wildfire near Sun Peaks

Drones look for hotspots

Drones are being used to scan for hotspots within the permitter of Embleton Mountain fire, which is still burning west of Sun Peaks.

On Sunday, while fire behaviour was low, BC Wildfire Service said crews worked to identify and extinguish the hotspots. They are also working towards extinguishing the entire perimeter 50 feet inward.

According to the BC Wildfire Service fire activity remains low, but there will still be smoke, and occasionally a flame visible, as root systems and stumps continue to smoulder.

Most of of the fire is in mop up and patrol now, the agency said, adding that contract crews are being supported by wildfire crews to fully put out the perimeter and any hotspots they find.

A number of evacuation alerts and orders related to the Embleton Mountain fire were lifted last week. Some properties in the Whitecroft area remain on evacuation alert, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
