Tk'emlups wants the world to join in on drumming to mark Sept. 30 day to honour reconciliation

Tk'emlups wants us to drum

The Tk'emlups te Secwepemc band is looking to drum in unison with people around the world on Sept. 30 to marks the first Canadian National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Chief Rosanne Casimir announced Friday that a virtual event will be held on Sept. 30 at 2:15 p.m. The band is asking the public to learn the Secewepemc Honour Song before the event so they can participate in the drumbeat.

In a media release, the band said the 2:15 p.m. start time as a tribute to the number 215, which “made a ripple around the world at the end of May.”

“We invite you to share this song, to teach it and record it in schools, workplaces, and living rooms,” said Chief Rosanne Casimir.

To make things easier for those participating around the world, the band is asking participants online to use the hashtag #Drumforthechildren.
