Kamloops BCSPCA branch looking to fill limo in unique donation drive

Fill the Limo for the SPCA

The Kamloops BCSPCA has partnered with local businesses to gather supplies for pets in need with a unique donation drive.

The second annual Fill the Limo event is slated to take place on Sunday on the campus of Thompson Rivers University and, after last year's success, organizers are doubling their goal from last year.

“We actually want to fill two limos,” Ashley Fontaine, a spokesperson for the Kamloops BCSPCA said.

“Last year was the first year and it was so successful, everybody wanted to come back and do it again.”

The idea for this drive came when River City Limo reached out to the Kamloops branch office to help out.

The Fill the Limo event is exactly what it sound like — patrons are encouraged to donate supplies or cash with hopes of filling two River City limos.

Organizers aren’t just looking for pet supplies. Fontaine said the organization does a lot of cleaning, so laundry detergent and other cleaners are high on the list, as well.

“People don't realize how much laundry that we go through or cleaning supplies that we go through,” she said.

“[Donations] just alleviate the burden of cost for us with a lot of those supplies at the branch level and help us care for the pets.”

The organization hopes to fill the limo specifically with cat treats, dog soft treats, canned cat food (pate style), canned dog food, dry kitten food, cat litter, paper towel, toilet paper, Kleenex, garbage bags, high-efficiency laundry detergent and fragrance free dryer sheets.

Like last year, the event is presented by both River City Limo and Eat Clean Kamloops, which will be on hand on Saturday passing out free samples to donors.

The limos will be parked at the TRU parking lot at the corner of McGill Road and Summit Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the event was taking place on Saturday. It has been corrected to say it will take place on Sunday.
