TNRD to host household hazardous waste round-up event

Dispose of hazardous waste

Kamloops residents will have the opportunity to get rid of old cleaners and chemicals over the weekend as the Thompson-Nicola Regional District hosts its annual household hazardous waste round-up.

According to a statement from the TNRD, the free event will be held at the Kamloops Mission Flats Landfill on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Waste will also be collected in the Merritt Civic Centre parking lot on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Household hazardous waste is any waste from your home that is considered to be dangerous or which you have reason to believe could be hazardous,” the TNRD said.

The TNRD said paint, batteries, oil, antifreeze, flammables, poisons, corrosives, adhesives, grease or tar, gasoline, pool or lab chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers are all examples of hazardous waste.

A round-up event for commercial and agricultural pesticides and medications is also being hosted by Clean Farms. Those looking to dispose of these materials can get more information on their website.
