DNA tests match remains found in river to missing city man

Remains match missing man

Human remains found in the South Thompson River over the summer belong to a Kamloops man reported missing a year ago, police say.

Mounties do not suspect foul play in the death of Ryan Friesen, who was reported missing from his Royal Avenue residence on Oct. 19, 2020.

Human remains were found in the South Thompson River on Aug. 23, police said, and DNA testing confirmed they belong to Friesen.

“Police have been in contact with Mr. Friesen’s family, who supported releasing his name publicly to update those who have been actively looking for him since his disappearance,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

“The family has asked for privacy at this time.”
