TNRD to require all workers, contractors, volunteers to be vaccinated by February

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is implementing a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all staff, contractors and volunteers.

According to a statement from the TNRD on Monday, the policy will come into effect on Feb. 1, 2022.

“Being vaccinated is the most effective measure to limit the spread of COVID-19,” TNRD CAO Scott Hildebrand said in the statement.

“Making vaccination a requirement is an important step to ensuring our workplaces are as safe as possible for our employees and the public.”

In the statement, the TNRD said it’s waiting until Feb. 1 to allow enough time for unvaccinated employees to get two doses.

“Employees, contractors and volunteers who choose not to comply with the policy by Feb. 1, 2022, will not be eligible to work or provide services,” the statement read.

“Accommodations will be available for those who cannot be vaccinated based on a medical condition or a reason related to a protected ground under the BC Human Rights Code.”
