More than 1,000 unionized workers at Highland Valley Copper have served 72-hour strike notice.
Teck Resources confirmed Tuesday it had received notice from United Steelworkers Local 7619, which represents 1,048 employees at the mine near Logan Lake.
“Negotiations are ongoing and the parties are scheduled to meet with mediators on Friday, Jan. 14,” Teck said in a statement.
The earliest strike action could commence is Sunday.
According to Teck, the previous collective agreement at the mine expired on Sept. 30.
