Burglar hits Dallas fire hall

A Kamloops man has been charged after allegedly stealing expensive electronics and firefighting gear on Wednesday during a burglary at a city fire hall.

Police were called to the Kamloops Fire Rescue hall in the 5000-block of Dallas Drive just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of an overnight break-in.

Investigators were told a number of items were stolen, including a forward-looking infrared camera, radio equipment and firefighting gear.

“As part of the investigation, police identified and arrested a suspect shortly after at a nearby residence,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

Shane Lee McLeod, 21, is facing charges of break and enter, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property. He has also been charged with an unrelated count of uttering threats.

McLeod, who remains behind bars, is expected to appear in Kamloops provincial court later in the day on Thursday.
