Colourful cardigan up for sale to raise money for artisan single mother in Turkey

Funds for cardigan creator

A North Kamloops clothing store is selling a special handmade sweater in hopes of raising money for its maker — a single mother who lives in Turkey.

Stephanie Coster, owner of The Resourceful Rabbit, said it took two weeks for the artisan to create the colourful cardigan, which was recently brought to Canada by a mutual friend — the woman who taught Coster how to sew.

Coster said the woman who made the sweater receives a monthly wage of $150, and is the sole provider for her two children.

“She’s not with her husband anymore, and she takes care of her two kids, but she just living off her pension, which hasn't gone up even though the Turkish Lira has depleted a lot in the last eight years,” Coster said.

Coster said she is hoping to sell the sweater for $150, and is also accepting donations. All funds raised will go directly to the artisan in Turkey.

She said so far, she’s raised $85, and the cardigan, which fits a size small to medium, is still up for grabs.

According to Coster, Team Approach Property Services will be matching any donations raised.

Anyone interested in donating can visit Coster’s GoFundMe page or the Resourceful Rabbit storefront located at 1121 12th Street.
