TRU hosting online panel on faith and spirituality

TRU wants to talk about faith

Thompson Rivers University is inviting the community to join in on a virtual panel discussion on faith and spirituality.

TRU said as part of World Interfaith Harmony Week, from Feb. 1 to 7, it will be hosting a virtual event titled Spiritual Care: A Practical Approach.

World Interfaith Harmony Week is “a way to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith,” according to the United Nations, which founded the observational week.

TRU says the panel will examine various faith perspectives and will include a question and answer period.

The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy at the university have opted to host the event to explore how faith and spirituality can provide tangible solutions to life's various problems and allow one to find purpose and reach their higher potential, TRU said.

TRU said the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy acts as a religious and spiritual resource to students, faculty and staff on campus.

"This event is an opportunity to hear dialogue from a wide variety of spiritual approaches to today's life in uncertain times,” said Pat Davies from TRU’s Centre for Spiritual Living and the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy. “Our individual faith is a cornerstone for coping with stress whether it be school, family, work or world conditions."

The panel will be made-up of Ven. Khenmo Drolma from Vajra Dakini Nunnery, Dr. David Brando from Central Baptist Seminary and Tanweer Ebrahim, founding member and executive director of Nisa Helpline and it will be moderated by writer and storyteller Alicia Ashcroft.

The event takes place on Feb. 2 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and can be live streamed on the TRU student life Facebook page.
