Police have a tipster to thank after a Mountie last weekend recovered more than 20 laptops stolen earlier this month from a Brocklehurst school.
According to police, a Mountie making patrols on Friday “received a lead” Friday on where he could find a stash of Chromebooks stolen recently from the old George Hilliard School on Holt Street.
Thirty laptops were stolen during a burglary at the school on Jan. 3. Another 24 were stolen during a break-in eight days later.
“The officer later attended a parking lot on the North Shore and located a plastic bin containing 21 of the computers,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.
“While the return of the Chromebooks is a plus, police are reminding the community that almost three-dozen remain missing.”
Thirty-five Chromebooks stolen from the school are still unaccounted for, according to police.
“Obviously, whoever broke in and stole from a school knew they were stealing from kids,” Evelyn said.
“It’s important that anyone who knows who has the outstanding items or who is responsible for the break-ins does the right thing and contacts police as soon as possible.”
