Psychiatric assessment ordered for man who held up Victoria Street retail store

Senior robber pleads guilty

A 69-year-old Kamloops man has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment after pleading guilty to robbery charges.

Ronald Anthony Kuz pleaded guilty in Kamloops provincial court on Thursday to one count each of robbery and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.

Kuz was arrested following an Oct. 22 robbery in a retail store in the 200-block of Victoria Street. At the time, police said they were called to a report of a robbery in which a man brandished what appeared to be a firearm.

In court on Thursday, Kuz was ordered to undergo a pre-sentence assessment with a psychiatric component.

Details of the robbery will be made public when Kuz is sentenced. Lawyers are expected to return to court on May 19 to set a date for sentencing.

Kuz remains free on bail.
