City's longest running music festival will be held throughout July and August, City of Kamloops says

Music in the Park returns

Music in the Park will return to the Riverside Park Rotary Bandshell in 2022.

The City of Kamloops released a statement saying the city’s longest running music festival, held in partnership with BCLC, will once again be held throughout July and August.

Henry Small, who has coordinated the daily outdoor concert series since the ’90's, said he is looking forward to organizing this year’s lineup.

“We look forward to welcoming artists back to our community and encourage our out-of-town friends to come and enjoy the longest-running series of its kind in North America,” Small said in a statement.

The city said the summer event has been part of Kamloops’ entertainment scene since 1994, but was cancelled in 2020 and shortened in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Sean Smith, the city’s business operations and event supervisor, said the event was “dearly missed” in the community over the past few years.

“We’re so happy to have it back in Riverside Park this summer,” Smith said.

Peter ter Weeme, BCLC’s chief social purpose officer and vice president of player experience said the company is proud to once again present Music in the Park alongside the city.

“BCLC is thrilled to help bring communities together again for connection and music, and we look forward to the many performances planned for this summer.”

Smith said organizers are encouraging past and new artists to apply for the opportunity to perform.

“The wide variety of music is what makes this event a success,” Smith said.

Artists can apply for the 2022 event through the City of Kamloops’ webpage.

Residents can check the website for schedule updates as they become available.
