Police seize multiple 'unsecured' guns from Scotch Creek home while investigating burglary

Guns seized after burglary

A number of unsecured firearms were found and seized by Mounties in Scotch Creek investigating a report of a burglary, police say.

Chase RCMP said they received a report of a break-in in progress in Scotch Creek just after 12:30 a.m. on June 20.

“The complainant reported hearing banging and smashing glass,” Chase RCMP Sgt. Barry Kennedy said in a news release.

“Police rushed to the scene and found that the front door was smashed.”

Kennedy said Mounties called out and no one responded. Investigators then searched the home.

“An intoxicated female was located hiding under a bed,” Kennedy said.

“She was arrested and placed in the back seat of a police car. She told police that the home belonged to a friend and that she broke in because she needed something but didn’t have a key.”

Kennedy said the homeowner confirmed the story and did not want to pursue charges.

“While searching the house for a possible suspect, police located several unsecured firearms in the residence and seized them,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
