Severe thunderstorm watch lifted for Kamloops, remains in place in nearby regions

The severe thunderstorm watch for Kamloops has now ended, but a severe thunderstorm warning remains in place for the Shuswap. Severe thunderstorm watches also remain in place for a number of nearby areas, including the North Thompson, 100 Mile and the Okanagan.


UPDATE: 2:11 p.m.

Environment Canada ended the severe thunderstorm warning for the Kamloops area just after 2 p.m. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect.


UPDATE: 1:10 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm watch issued for Kamloops and area was upgraded just after 1 p.m. to a severe thunderstorm warning.


ORIGINAL STORY: 12:43 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued over the noon hour Tuesday for Kamloops and the surrounding area.

According to Environment Canada, Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of storms that could produce large hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued early Tuesday morning for the Okanagan, but Kamloops was not placed on watch until early in the afternoon.
