Despite posts making the rounds on social media, Kamloops Mounties say they received no reports in recent weeks of men in a white van stalking and attempting to kidnap city women.
The posts began to circulate on Facebook on June 22, claiming two men in a white van have been following women around Kamloops and attempting to abduct them.
The posts offered little in terms of specifics but generated a significant response online.
Castanet Kamloops asked police whether investigators have received any such complaints.
“There were no reports that I could find related to the posts,” RCMP Cpl. Dana Napier replied.
Last year, following a rash of social media posts about alleged abduction attempts — all of which were determined by police to be unfounded — Mounties encouraged Kamloops residents to report crimes directly to police rather than posting about them on Facebook.
